Ottawa, 23 January 2012 – The Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) released today a study showing that Web-based job search and career planning tools can be effective in improving career choices of young post-secondary graduates. Some 500 recent graduates residing in British Columbia participated in the CareerMotion demonstration project with half of them receiving access to a custom-designed career development services Web site and the other half serving as a control group. SRDC’s rigorous evaluation of the program shows that the Web tools significantly helped participants improve their confidence and their ability to make informed career decisions. The report represents the first rigorous test of the effectiveness of labour market information accessed online.
