In this working paper commissioned in the context of CEIP, William Ninacs, an independent consultant and observer of social trends, reflects on the available literature dealing with the social economy in an effort to provide an understanding of its characteristics, in particular what is termed the “new social economy.” The paper provides insight into both the Quebec model of community economic development and models in use in other parts of Canada.
