Evaluation of the Advancing Women in Engineering and Technology in BC Pilot Project (AWET)

Authors:Barbara DobsonSusanna Gurr

The Advancing Women in Engineering and Technology Project (AWET) was a two-year project funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training Sector Labour Market Partnerships (SLMP) Program. The goal of AWET was to increase the participation of in the engineering and technology by supporting the implementation of diversity and inclusion
strategies in BC. The Covid-19 public health emergency necessitated changes in the delivery approach and the focus of the AWET. The Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) had been commissioned to evaluate the AWET and, in response to the change in focus, it was contracted by the AWET project to conduct a jurisdictional scan.

This report brings together data generated from the AWET evaluation, a literature review and qualitative interviews with employers, key informants and women in the sector. The purpose of the report is to explore the
factors that contribute to a successful diversity and inclusion initiative, to identify the major barriers and what to consider the insights a GBA+ lens brings to the understanding of diversity and inclusion for equity seeking groups in the sector.
